The School

The Hebron Seventh-day Adventist Bilingual School family exists to show children Jesus, nurture their love for Him and others, teach them to think, and empower them to serve.
Hebron SDA Bilingual is a Nursery, Pre-Kindergarten (a full day Pre-Kindergarten class is offered in addition to Kindergarten) Kindergarten through 8th grade Elementary and Middle School under the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Education Department.

The curriculum stresses academic achievement within a Christian community where the child feels that he/she is loved and respected by his/her peers as well as the teacher. United with one another in meaningful prayer, the students can further come to an understanding of the Christian life.

The Seventh-day Adventist curriculum guidelines, consistent with the State of New York guidelines, are followed for the teaching of all subject areas. The curriculum is marked by current content and fresh approaches to methodology. There is emphasis on principles rather than fact, on learning through problem solving rather than by precept. We strive to offer a program which makes use of many sources of reading material, a variety of audio-visual and technological tools and a multi-text approach to the content areas.
History

The Hebron SDA Bilingual School (N-8) founded in 1975 by the late Pastor Mathieu Bermingham, opened with four students on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, NY. Its primary objective was to help the children of the Haitian churches to maintain the French language and receive an Adventist education.

The support and sacrifices of members of the Haitian-American Adventists of New York, made it possible for the building at 920 Park Place to be acquired. Like all of the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists schools, Hebron has grown and blossomed into a well established, fully accredited institution which provides a Christian education to hundreds of students from several churches and the community at large.
Hebron SDA School’s Mission Statement

The mission of the Hebron SDA Bilingual School is to provide a unique experience of spiritual, mental, physical, and social development. A committed staff in a Christ centered, nurturing environment prepares our students to become great leaders and successful citizens of the future.
Philosophy

The Hebron Seventh-day Adventist Bilingual School is operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church to provide a spiritually oriented education for children. Seventh-day Adventists believe that their students are children of God, and their teachers, servants of God. A belief in the existence of the Creator God is fundamental in the philosophy of Seventh-day Adventist schools. We respect His divine authority and recognize His intervention in human affairs. We believe that true education develops the spiritual, mental, and physical powers of each student; preparing them for the joy of service in this life and for the higher joy of service in the life to come. Our schools are commissioned, therefore, to follow after the will of God, the knowledge of which is communicated by revelation. The church operates a school system that its youth may receive a balanced religious, intellectual, vocational, social and physical education in harmony with denominational standards and ideals, with God as the source of all moral value and truth.

For the express purpose of transmitting to their children their own ideals, beliefs, attitudes, appreciations, habits, and customs
A true knowledge of God, fellowship and companionship with Him in study and services and likeness to Him in character development are to be respectively the source, the means, and the aim of Seventh-day Adventist education.

To develop the total Christian personality by instilling in the student a respect for life and reverence for Christian living.
To develop within the school a strong religious education program based on Adventist theology, scripture, and service so that each child will grow and develop in the Christian way of life.
To facilitate the intellectual, social, and physical development of each child through a variety of instructional methods such as small and large group instruction, departmental classes, and other tools for basic knowledge and formation.
To aid students in evaluation of their own capabilities and vocational possibilities.

It is the consensus of the faculty that every human being has a right to pursue knowledge corresponding with his/her dignity and God-given ability, regardless of background or sex. In the early years, education is often of the utmost importance because through education and guidance, the children of today become the Adventist citizens of tomorrow.
